Neighborhood Watch
First, be sure to click on “Civic Association” in the header above for lots of useful information for residents and anyone interested in our community.
The Neighborhood Watch program in Montgomery County was established in 1979 to assist communities with crime prevention measures to reduce the opportunity for a crime to occur. The program involves the joint efforts of the police department and the community. It is designed to enhance neighborhood security, heighten the community’s power of observation, and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors.
Rock Creek Woods began participating in the Neighborhood Watch Program in 1991. Official participation in the program requires 60% of the community to observe the following steps:
- Home Security – Check the security precautions at your house: Upgrade indoor and outdoor lights. Secure doors and windows with deadbolt locks. Install door bars and window locks for sliding glass doors. Trim shrubbery close to windows and doors to eliminate hiding places.
- Operation Identification – Identify theft-prone possessions by recording their serial numbers and engraving them with an identifiable number (preferably a driver’s license number).
- Block Watchers – Report crime, suspicious situations, vehicles and people to police. Watch out for neighbors and inform them when you will be out of town. Request that neighbors collect your mail and newspapers when you are away and do the same for them.
If you are aware of any criminal activity or see anyone or anything suspicious in our neighborhood, please contact the police.
