    Ella Raises Butterflies!

    Posted by Valerie Tate

Hello Neighbors! My name is Ella Kim and I successfully raised 7 monarch butterflies from their eggs. Because milkweed grows locally, I identified the eggs on the milkweed because of their ridges. After that, I kept feeding them milkweed and they grew very rapidly as caterpillars. It was fascinating to see them progress and finally get ready to form a ...READ MORE »

Original Owner Interview: Milt & Marlyn Socolar

Julie and Dick Marcis recently hosted a luncheon in April for Marlyn and Milton Socolar during which the Socolars graciously agreed to talk about their early experiences in the Rock Creek Woods community. They are original owners of a Goodman house on lower Rickover. The following is a lightly-edited transcript of our conversation with the Socolars. Update: Library of Congress Goodman Archives

    Posted by Valerie Tate

April 14, 2016: In our earlier post we noted that there would be 4 to 5 blue print-size documents per Rock Creek Woods house model in the Library of Congress Goodman Archives. In fact the drawing set consists of more – at least twelve for the BC-1D Starview model, for example. We will have to wait for a complete inventory, but ...READ MORE »

    Library of Congress Archival Drawings

    Posted by Valerie Tate

April 11, 2016: Henri and Motoko Lezec visited the Charles Goodman Archive at the Library of Congress. They discovered that our community could purchase digital scans of the fragile Rock Creek Woods architectural drawings. There are approximately 4 to 5 blueprint-size documents for each home. The four unit types are the BC-1D (Starview), BC-3U (Woodview), BC 2U (Brookview), and BC-4D ...READ MORE »
